Biographical sketch and education

Dr. Robert Kaspar is the director of studies “Sports-, Culture- & Event Management”, based in Kufstein in the Tyrol, Austria. The university of applied sciences strives to be Austria’s most international university.

He is responsible for the Bachelor and Master Degree programmes, both offered in a mix of German and English and open to students from all continents. The degree programme was established in 2001 and has educated nearly 300 graduates who now enjoy leading positions in the field around the world.

Dr. Robert Kaspar has obtained his Doctorate in International Business Administration at the Vienna University of Economics after having researched and studied in New Zealand, Spain and Sweden.

Since 1994, he has served in a number of mega event companies, ranging from Expos to World Championships and holding the position of managing director for the Salzburg 2010 Olympic Winter Games bid. Based on his professional experiences and the first publications of Prof. Don Getz, Canada, he has continued to develop the “Event-Life-Cycle” model applied to various sports and cultural mega events. His research focus evolves around the long-term impacts of mega events. Currently, he has extended his research interest to the development and analysis of event strategies for cities, destinations and nations and their contribution to destination branding. Furthermore, he looks at the success factors of infrastructure development of a destination.
