Currency in Austria:
1 euro = 100 euro cents
Euro bank notes and coins:
Bank notes with values of 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200 and 500 euros
Coins with values of 1 and 2 euros as well as 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50 cents

Bank opening hours (in general):
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm and 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm
Thursday from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm and 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm

Cash machines (ATMs):

Outside of the regular banking hours it is possible to withdraw money from ATMs, which can be found all over Austria. The machines accept domestic and foreign Maestro cards (ATM cards) as well as MasterCard, American Express, Visa, and Diners Club (if they have been authorized for cash withdrawals) and the related service cards Cirrus and Visa-Plus. Credit cards are accepted in many hotels, restaurants and stores in cities and touristic regions as well as in gas stations.

The following table shows the estimated cost of living for students per month (the figures are only approximations and should not be considered binding). For the cost of accommodation, the calculation is based on the approximate rent for a room in a student residence or in a shared apartment; please note that factors such as size and location play a significant role in the price of accommodation. The costs for groceries and miscellaneous items will also vary depending on your lifestyle and daily needs.
