Obtaining health insurance
All students at the FH Kufstein must make sure that they have health insurance to cover the cost of treatment in case of illness or injury. Austrian students, up until the age of 26, are automatically insured through their parents; in all other cases, students must make sure they posses valid health insurance for themselves, as outlined below.
Students and visiting researchers from EU/EEA countries, who have valid health insurance in their home country, will only need to obtain and bring with them their European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). This card proves that they are entitled to receiving basic health care and medical assistance in the country of temporary residence, i.e., in Austria.
Private health insurance is required for students who do not have compulsory health insurance in Austria or another EU country and intend to reside in Austria (e.g., for the period of their studies or exchange program). If you fall into this category, please contact the TGKK (Tiroler Gebietskrankenkasse, the Tyrolean insurance provider) at the address below for further information, conditions that apply to your personal situation, current health insurance premiums, and the application form. The standard monthly insurance premium for students is €49.85 (status: 2011; subject to annual increases); some students may be entitled to a discounted premium.
