Executive Management - MBA
This is a continuing education program established in accordance with § 14a of the Austrian Fachhochschule Studies Act (FHStG).
Target groups for the program
This continuing education program has been conceived for university graduates with a first academic degree and professionals with at least three years of experience in a leading position, who are interested in attaining the degree Master of Business Administration (MBA). As a further qualification, the MBA can open doors to functions in upper management. For those applicants who already have a master’s degree or equivalent from a tertiary institution and for those who have graduated from or dropped out of programs with an economic focus, there may be the possibility to transfer credits and thus exempt students from taking particular courses.
Prerequisites for admission
One of the following prerequisites must be fulfilled by applicants in order to be eligible for admission to this continuing education program:
- an internationally recognized academic degree from a tertiary institution in Austria or abroad, or
- a minimum of 3 years of professional experience in a leading position and other work-related qualifications, provided this experience gives the candidate an equivalent aptitude for participation in the study program (determined at the discretion of the program director).
Duration
4 semesters. Students participate in on-site phases and study through distance learning; they are also required to compose a master’s thesis.
Conferred degree
The academic degree awarded to students is "Master of Business Administration" (MBA).
Tuition fee for the program
The tuition fee is € 3,990 per semester (no VAT).
Program objectives
This MBA conveys to students the management knowledge they need to perform efficiently and effectively in leading roles in corporate and organizational settings. To this end, the program offers to students a dynamic, educational environment in which they are encouraged to cultivate their economic and entrepreneurial thinking as well as their social skills. In the fields of management and leadership, students are exposed to, above all, consolidated scientific knowledge that is both specialized and practically oriented. An intense focus is placed on working with current research findings on entrepreneurial practices, managerial behavior, and change management. This approach gives students the necessary background to appreciate and utilize the potent connections between managerial theory and practice.
Curriculum
The MBA program comprises a total of 525 units (academic hours) of coursework plus the compilation of the master’s thesis, which all in all translates into 90 ECTS points. The on-site phases command 216 units, and 309 units are to be completed through distance learning.
Credit transfer and exemption from coursework
In accordance with § 12,(2),6 of the Austrian Fachhochschule Studies Act (FHStG) and University Law 2002 (§ 78), this continuing education program permits students to request a credit transfer for positively evaluated examinations taken in economic fields at other tertiary educational institutions or in the context of postsecondary, continuing education programs. Credit transfer for such positively evaluated examinations is only possible if these are equivalent to the prescribed examinations in the MBA curriculum and/or if the number of ECTS points is the same or deviates only slightly. The program director is responsible for reviewing the requests for credit transfer. Requests are considered only after students have been accepted to the program. If a request is approved, students may be exempted from the corresponding course and/or examination.
Schedule and location
The academic year for this MBA program begins in the summer semester (i.e., in March). The on-site coursework is done in 11 phases (blocks), each consisting of 20 teaching units scheduled from Friday, starting at 2:00 pm, to Sunday, ending at 12:15 pm.
Courses during the on-site phases are held in various locations in Vienna and the surrounding area.
Information, application procedure and acceptance
In general, admission to the program is granted to qualified candidates in the order that their applications are received. Once the application form and the relevant documentation have been received by the program administrators, candidates are informed whether they fulfill the requirements for acceptance to the MBA program.
