The 27th Annual Conference of the European Association of Institutions in Higher Education (EURASHE), which took place in Le Havre, France, on March 30 and 31, 2017, put the spotlight on "Professional Higher Education 4.0: A Change for Universities of Applied Sciences". Conference presentations mainly focused on technological developments, digitalization, and new requirements and expectations towards a changed employability and higher education as a mass phenomenon.

eLearning connects students abroad

The Vice Rector of the FH Kufstein Tirol, Mag. Diane Freiberger, MBA, and Asc.-Prof.(FH) Ing. Mag. Kurt Hoffmann, Vice Director of Studies of the International Business Studies Bachelor's and Master's programs, were invited to speak at the EURASHE conference. In their presentation about the "virtual classroom as a method to keep in touch with your students during the externship", they explained how the concept of eLearning is applied to the full-time International Business Studies Bachelor's program.

eLearning was born out of necessity at the Kufstein University of Applied Sciences – to keep in touch with students during their time abroad and to give them input for their Bachelor theses. This eventually became a virtual lecture about how practical experience can be translated into theory. The online class teaches students how to formulate theories, how to reflect on them and assess them in order to be able to apply their theories in a meaningful way. Students also enhance their presentation skills and learn how to deal with different types of media.
