The Institute for Energy, Facility & Real Estate Management at the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol gives students with outstanding papers on sustainable topics the Young Scientist Energy Award (YSEA) 2020.

Since 2017, the Young Scientist Energy Award has been given to young people and schools who deal with important sustainability topics in pre-scientific papers such as research papers and diploma or seminar theses. Around 80 papers were submitted from all of Germany and Austria in 2020, and they were assessed by a specialist panel of professors and research assistants from the Institute for Energy, Facility & Real Estate Management.

“We were fascinated by the various ideas and the diversity of the topics that were submitted. The students focus on important sustainability topics and deal with current challenges. From mobility to waste recycling to biodiversity, the students made theoretical and practical examinations and enthused us with innovative, creative approaches,” said panel member and Director of Studies of Bachelor Energy & Sustainability Management Asc. University of Applied Sciences Professor Dipl.-Ing. Christian Huber.

This year’s award during the digital sustainability week

On November 10, 2020 at 3:00 PM, it was time, and the panel announced the winners of the Young Scientist Energy Awards 2020. The nine best papers were awarded, and the authors received the prize money of 250 euros in addition to a certificate. The award was given during the five-day sustainability week at the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol (powered by MUT), which was organized by students. This digital event deals with papers as well as a wide variety of exciting sustainability topics. “Under the motto: For you. For me. Presentations, workshops and activities are organized for our future that are digitally available and should help us all make the world a bit more sustainable,” said project supervisor Sabrina Eitzinger, MA, lecturer at the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol.

Partner schools of the Young Scientist Energy Award

Schools throughout Austria and Germany receive the award as a YSEA partner school 2020 for the opportunity and for the promotion of sustainability research and handling sustainable topics in school education programs. “A big thank you to the supervisors who gave their support to the papers and helped students critically deal with complex topics,” said Huber.

Young Scientist Energy Award receives Sustainability Award

The Federal Ministry for Climate Action, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology and the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research give the Sustainability Award to recognize “sustainable higher education institutions” and their achievements. The University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol is being awarded the Sustainability Award for the third time and will continue to advocate for sustainability topics in the future.

“We are proud of the fact that we were awarded third place for the Sustainability Award in the “International Cooperation” category. Our efforts for cross-border and cross-educational system cooperation and our efforts for promoting sustainability topics were awarded,” Huber reported.
