SKVM students in the economic center of Morocco
The group of students explored the broad cultural offers accompanied by Director of Studies Asc. Prof. (FH) Mag. Monika Kohlhofer and Research Assistant of the Study Program Angela Scalet, BA. Visiting the medieval city from the Berber times and Casablanca, the trade and industrial center of the country, was especially exciting for the students. Study trips are an important part of the part-time study program and expand the theoretical knowledge with insights into the international working environment and various cultures.
Marrakesh – UNESCO world heritage site
So-called “Medina”, the old city of Marrakesh, is part of the UNESCO world cultural heritage and was already founded in the year 1126. Surrounded by approximately 20 kilometers of city walls, Medina offers special insights into the Moroccan city. Accompanied by a local German-speaking city guide, students explored the city with its narrow, lively and original alleys and its spice and leather merchants.
Sports & leisure time
The study trip included gaining insights into a golf resort and subsequently taking part in a golf lesson. Morocco is regarded as one of the aspiring nations for golf tourism. In Marrakesh alone, there are 12 large-scale golf facilities, which are often closely associated with hotels. The facilities are especially important for the country since they offer employment and stand for economic prosperity.
Art & culture
A private tour through the museum MACAAL (Musée d'Art Contemporain Africain Al Maaden) with Janine Gaëlle Dieudji, curator of the museum, introduced students to African art and cultural history. The students visited the exhibit “New Waves” by Mohamed Melehi, one of the best-known modern Moroccan artist. The curator then answered questions from students about managing a museum in the African region. Increasing the attractiveness of the museum for locals is a challenge and an important task for museum management. A visit to the garden of the Austrian artist André Heller and the Yves Saint Laurent Museum gave the group of students further great insights into art and culture.
Casablanca: Trade and industry center
The day trip to Casablanca was a highlight of the study trip. The large city is the most important trade and industry center of Morocco. During a meeting in the Casablanca Foreign Trade Center, the students learned many interesting facts about Morocco's economy and were also given the opportunity to discuss differences between daily life in Austria and Morocco with German-speaking employees. The compatibility of German-speaking and Moroccan culture was elucidated with a visit to the Goethe-Institut. Manager of the Goethe-Institut Morocco Dr. Susanne Baumgart gave students insights into the institute’s impressive work.
Moroccan cuisine
The group of students enjoyed a typical Moroccan dinner at the “Amal” restaurant, which supports disadvantaged women. The meal was cooked in the country’s traditional clay cooking dish “Tajine”. The restaurant was founded in 2012 by the American-Moroccan Nora Fitzgerald Belahcen. Her goal was to introduce disadvantaged women to independent living and teach them new skills during a six-month program.

A study trip brought 22 bachelor students of the study program Sports, Culture & Event Management of FH Kufstein Tirol to the city of Marrakesh in the west of Morocco. Study trips are an important part of the part-time study program and expand the theoretical knowledge with insights into the international working environment and various cultures.
