Sustainability is the Order of the Day
Sustainability is the order of the day - according to an article in the November issue of “Gewinn InfoDay.” In recent years, the topic of sustainability has become more and more important and will increasingly be reflected in the strategies of companies in the coming years. “Sustainability should be more than just greenwashing,” says Asc. Prof. (FH) Dipl.-Ing. Christian Huber, head of the degree programs Energy & Sustainability Management and Facility & Real Estate Management.
Sustainability in focus
Asc. Prof. (FH) Dipl.-Ing. Christian Huber is a degree program director and researcher at the Institute for Energy, Facility & Real Estate Management. In the degree programs Energy & Sustainability Management and Facility & Real Estate Management, sustainability in research & company projects as well as in teaching has long been an important focus. The contents of the degree programs involve a combination of economic, technological, and social skills. “The students are trained here to become future visionaries in a practical way. For example, during their studies, our students support communities and regions in projects that support them on their way toward energy transition,” says Huber.
A driving force for the region
The commitment of the degree program and institute teams goes beyond the daily professional work with and training of the students. “In addition to the offering in teaching and research, we see ourselves as a source of inspiration for the region and also on a national and international level. This summer, we will be holding the ‘Sustainability Week’ for the third time. The event is aimed at all citizens of Kufstein and the surrounding area,” explains Asc. Prof. (FH) Dipl.-Ing. Christian Huber.
A diverse range of tasks
Expertise in sustainability in a business context is essential for a sustainable future in all areas. The bachelor’s and master’s degree programs start right there and train the students to become specialists. “Our graduates from Energy & Sustainability Management can gain a foothold in an exciting and rapidly growing area of responsibility. Small and medium-sized to international companies are urgently looking for sustainability experts. Likewise, the graduates of the Facility & Real Estate Management degree program deal intensively with the topics of sustainability relating to real estate and face a diverse range of sustainable tasks in their job,” emphasizes Huber. The degree programs are suitable for anyone interested in economic and technological topics related to sustainability who wants to work with sustainable services and products, regenerative energies, or sustainable mobility. “You want to get people excited about sustainability and make the world a little bit better with your ideas? Then you are exactly right with us. During their studies, the students deepen their communication skills and social competencies to advance sustainability locally and globally successfully,” says Huber enthusiastically.
Sustainable in its own right
Asc. Prof. (FH) Dipl.-Ing. Christian Huber has been teaching and researching at the FH Kufstein Tirol since 2010. During his architecture studies, he was already committed to energy-saving renovations and the resource-saving use of materials in buildings. “Both professionally and privately, I have been focusing on the topic of sustainability for a number of years now - it’s almost impossible to imagine my everyday life without it. My family and I have always had a strong focus on sustainability when it comes to shopping, living, traveling, and leisure. I am pleased that sustainability is firmly anchored in our degree programs. At the same time, I am proud that I can share responsibility for this,” says Huber.
That sustainability is anything but boring and monotonous, the head of the degree programs experiences in daily exchanges with his colleagues: “Every day I am fascinated and enthusiastic about our diversified commitment to sustainability. This is also an opportunity for me to continue prioritizing sustainability and critically question my personal actions again and again and make them even more sustainable.”
