Learning outcomes of course unit

Students are able to:
• analyse, select and apply tolerances and fits.
• analyse and calculate simple static and dynamic component stresses.
• interpret the design strength and endurance strength of simple components.
• to identify and calculate simple adhesive, soldering, welding, riveted and screw joints.
• to design and dimension simple adhesive, soldering, welding, riveted and screw joints.
• select, design and dimension simple shaft-hub connections.

Tolerances and fits:
• Basic concepts of tolerances and fits
• Selection of tolerances and fits, tolerance systems
Fundamentals of calculation methods:
• Simple stress types: tensile stress and compressive stress, surface pressure, bending and torsion
• Static and dynamic types of usage
• Endurance strength and design strength, admissible stresses and safety
Connecting elements of machine construction:
• Functions and different variants of bolts, pins, screws, rivets
• Fundamentals of soldering, adhesive and welding connections
• Design rules and calculation bases for keys, spline shafts, polygon connections, serrations, interference fits, clamp connections and wedge connections, connections of tensioning elements
