Inter-university Doctoral programs

The FH Kufstein encourages cooperation with other third-level institutes. We encourage doctoral theses which are written in cooperation with the universities listed below. Bilateral cooperations are in development.

Cooperation with the University of Innsbruck

One of the key points of collaboration between the University of Innsbruck (LFUI) and the FH Kufstein can be found in the area of doctoral theses. The inter-university research teams formed by collaborative research and shared supervision of PhD theses combines the strengths of both partners, benefitting not only both universities, but both towns, the region and, of course, the researchers themselves.

Students are registered for a doctoral program at the University of Innsbruck and abide by this program’s curriculum and the legal requirements as stipulated by §51 paragraph 2, no. 12 of the Universities Act 2002. Research is supervised and evaluated by people from both universities who fulfill the legal requirements according to constitution of the University of Innsbruck §25 paragraph 2. The main supervisor must be a member of the University of Innsbruck research personnel. The supervisors and student sign an agreement which sets out the following: topic, scope and form of the research, as well as arrangements on feedback on the quality of work and a time frame for submitting work and completing courses. Compulsory examinations are taken at the University of Innsbruck, although it is possible to have examinations from other educational institutions recognized in their place. On successful completion of the program, candidates will be awarded their title by the University of Innsbruck.

With their supervisors consent, doctoral students may work in research teams at the FH Kufstein and use the available infrastructure there.

Cooperation with UMIT – the health & life sciences university

By cooperating with UMIT, we hope to intensify collaboration in the areas of research and program development, and use these synergies to strengthen Tirol as an important center of education and promote the potential of the area.

We hope to work together in both the supervision and assessment of doctoral theses, in our cooperative research teams and in teaching UMIT’s newly accredited (in 2011) doctoral programs in Nursing Science, Public Health, Health Technology Assessment, Health Information Systems, Management and Economics in Health Care, Psychology and Sports Medicine, Health Tourism & Leisure Sciences. Candidates will be registered for a doctoral program at UMIT and abide by this program’s curriculum and by §51 paragraph 2, no. 12 of the Universities Act 2002.

Research is supervised and evaluated by people from both universities who fulfill the legal requirements/prerequisites according to constitution of UMIT §25 paragraph 2. The main supervisor must be a member of UMIT research personnel. The supervisors and student sign an agreement which sets out the following: topic, scope and form of the research, as well as arrangements on feedback on the quality of work and a time frame for submitting work and completing courses. Compulsory examinations are taken at UMIT, although it is possible to have examinations from other educational institutions recognized in their place.
