Learning outcomes of course unit

Students will have integrative knowledge of and the ability to interpret:
a) The structure of the culture industry including its key players (artists, curators, promoters, financiers, the public) as well as
b) The relationship of cultural science and cultural theory to cultural management
Alongside this exemplary knowledge, students will gain insights into the methodological value of these paradigms in order to apply them for the benefit of cultural management. Students will also be able to discuss the function of cultural organizations and cultural activities.

Fundamental concepts and structures of the culture industry (sponsorship, funding, key players such as curators and artists); the position of the cultural manager within these structures; exemplary cultural theories (cultural sociology, cultural analysis, ...) and their possible interpretations for cultural organizations and cultural activities; European and international contexts and links; dialectical principles of cultural work.
