Students in the Web Business & Technology study program work on further developing the ticketing system

20.02.2020 | Practical projects
During their practical project, students at the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol created an application that should make for simpler and more efficient integration into the ticketing system worldwide for all employees of the 3CON Group.

The starting point of the practical project was the desired expansion of 3CONnect by a ticketing function for all users of the 3CON ERP system, which was to make for smoother communication. The project team from the Web Business & Technology study program received the contract for this at the end of October 2019. The team of students in the bachelor study program at the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol successfully implemented this challenging task on behalf of 3CON Anlagenbau GmbH and was also supported by University of Applied Sciences Professor Karsten Böhm as the lecturer.

Project: Assignment & implementation

Ticketing means reporting errors, wishes, etc. in the form of tickets that can then be processed by the appropriate company technical department. In the course of the project, the ticketing system that was already being used was to be made available to all globally active users of 3CONnect. The goal of the practical project was to implement reporting in 3CONnect and to expand that system.

The University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol students went to Ebbs for the kickoff meeting to discuss the project with the project client and to gain insights into the company’s work process. The project team first learned the ropes, and then busied itself with researching “Angular” and “Express.” The challenge was able to be met by integrating the GitLab-API program to manage the software source code and on the basis of a web-based application that is based on the web framework “Angular.” With the help of meticulous preparation, an application was developed that will facilitate communication between the company’s employees and developers in the future. The digital process can now be completely modeled by the new component in 3CONnect.

Project submission

The University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol students went back to Ebbs for the submission on January 28, 2020 and presented the finished project that the company received with great enthusiasm. The Course Director, University of Applied Sciences Professor Karsten Böhm not only accompanied the students to the project presentation but also supported the project throughout the entire semester.

In the opinion of the Lecturer, University of Applied Sciences Professor Karsten Böhm, who also manages the bachelor degree program, the specific effects of digitization became apparent in practice during this project. He clarified by saying: “The success of digitization is shown by the gradual implementation of individual aspects that have perceptible added value for the company. This project once again clarified that the use of web developers is not at all limited to IT companies, but it can also have a meaningful effect for innovative manufacturing companies.”
