SUSTAINABLE HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTION

We are committed to progressive and responsible education.

As global challenges like climate change, resource scarcity, and social inequalities become more pressing, our mission is to actively contribute to sustainable development. We believe that education is crucial for fostering environmentally conscious and socially just behavior. That’s why we are dedicated to integrating sustainability across all aspects of our work—from teaching and research to university management and partnerships.

Global challenges call for coordinated efforts in all areas of society and a change in values as a contribution to sustainable development.

Students at our university are trained to become visionaries of the future in a very practical way. During their studies and as part of projects, we support municipalities and regions on their path to energy transition, for example.

We encourage our guests to choose public transport, cycling or walking to our events. Travelling to an event is responsible for the majority of CO2 emissions at an event.

ALLIANCE FOR SUSTAINABLE HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS

In October 2021, we at FH Kufstein Tirol joined forces with other Austrian universities of applied sciences to launch the Alliance of Sustainable Higher Education Institutions. Honoured with the Sustainability Award 2022 from the Ministry of Science, we are committed to promoting sustainability in four key areas:

  • Teaching
  • Research
  • Higher education management
  • Cooperation

SUSTAINABILITY AS A COMMON GOAL OF AUSTRIAN HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS

Along with seven other higher education institutions in Tyrol, we are committed to promoting sustainability, especially in teaching and research. Our university is leading these efforts by coordinating a unified sustainability strategy that fosters close collaboration among the institutions. In our Energy & Sustainability Management and Facility & Real Estate Management degree programs, we focus on educating students to become forward-thinking professionals with a practical approach. FH Kufstein Tirol is committed to supporting municipalities and regions in their energy transition and to acting as a driving force both nationally and internationally.

SUSTAINABILITY IN TEACHING, RESEARCH AND DEGREE PROGRAMS

  • Tyrolean higher education institutions focus strongly on sustainability in teaching and research, promote environmentally conscious thinking and develop solution expertise for a climate-neutral circular economy. This not only strengthens Tyrol as a business location, but also offers potential for the local economy.
  • We are not only committed to sustainability, but are also actively involved in selected research and practical projects on this topic. Our dedicated teaching staff from various disciplines will help you to understand the many facets of this important topic.
  • Our degree programs not only teach technical and business know-how, but also social and communication skills. Graduates are ideally equipped to develop innovative solution approaches for a sustainable future and have excellent career opportunities in this growing field.

Green event

Award

Our university was recognized as a GET site in early 2024. This recognition underscores our long-standing commitment to sustainable events and highlights our pioneering role in the field of green event organization. Green events are events that take into account environmental, social, economic and cultural sustainability.

Pioneering role in environmentally friendly event organisation

In 2023, we successfully organized 18 outstanding events according to the strict Green Event Guidelines.
Our efforts include not only external events, but also internal adjustments such as barrier-free access, the use of green electricity, waste reduction, and the use of recycled paper for printed materials.

Sustainability: Integral application in the degree program

In our Sports, Culture & Event Management program, we place special emphasis on the integration of sustainability issues. Our students consistently implement the GET criteria in their practical projects and, ideally, can even achieve certification. One example of this is the Indie Sunset project group, which received the highest GET Star award for the music festival of the same name in 2023.
