About us
The Sustain & Estate Institute at the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol is dedicated to the question of how real estate, energy, and resources can be planned, operated, and developed in a sustainable manner—based on data, practical experience, and a systemic context.
In close cooperation with the degree programs in Facility Management & Real Estate Management and Energy & Sustainability Management, we research and develop solutions along the entire life cycle of buildings – from project development to operation and reuse. We focus on renewable energy systems, life cycle assessment, circular economy, and, above all, the development of data-driven tools that meet real user needs.
Our mission: to provide impetus for a well-thought-out, sustainable future – beyond mere efficiency – through sound research, relevant questions, and usable results.
Our Focus Areas

Facility & Real Estate Management:
We analyze, develop, and optimize real estate throughout its entire life cycle—with a focus on quality, efficiency, and user satisfaction. Our research combines market and operational data with digital technologies such as drones, image recognition, and machine learning. The aim is to create a sound basis for decision-making and to measurably improve building operations.

Energy & sustainability Management:
We investigate how renewable energy systems can be used sensibly and integrated into existing structures - in a way that is technically feasible, economically viable, and ecologically effective. Using life cycle assessments, life cycle analyses, and circular economy concepts, we make sustainability measurable and develop strategies for the responsible use of resources. In doing so, we work on practical solutions.
