admission requirements
Admission to a Bachelor's program
- For bachelor’s programs, proof of general university entrance qualification is required. If your foreign certificate grants university access in your home country and matches the content and standards of an Austrian secondary school leaving certificate (at least 12 years of secondary education), it will generally be accepted..
- After submitting your online application, our admissions team will assess the equivalence of your certificate.
- If there are gaps, these may possibly be addressed through our Complementary Courses and Examinations:

- Afghanistan:
Admission to a Bachelor's program is not granted with a 12th Grade graduation certificate. - Bangladesh:
Admission to a Bachelor's program cannot be granted on basis of a Higher Secondary Certificate. It is only possible with additional proof of at least two examination-active years of study with a successful completion rate of 80% of the maximum attainable score. - China:
Admission with Senior middle school graduation certificate (gaozhong biye zhengshu) after the regular twelve years of schooling, in combination with the National Secondary School Graduation Examination (putong gaozhong xueye shuiping kaoshi or huikao) and the National Higher Education Entrance Examination (putong gaodeng xuexiao zhaosheng quanguo tongyi kaoshi or gaokao), with a total score of at least 70 % of the maximum overall score. - EU/EEA-Länder:
If state admission or entrance examinations are required in the country of origin for unrestricted access to higher education, these examination certificates must be submitted in addition to the secondary school leaving certificate for admission (e.g., Greece, Spain). - IB Diploma:
At least 6 subjects must be completed, with 3 at Higher Level and 3 at Standard Level. The 3 Higher Level subjects must have a total score of 12 with no grade below 3. The total of the individual grades of the 6 examination subjects (plus any bonus points) must be at least 24. - India:
Admission is granted with a school leaving certificate after 12 years of schooling with 75 % of the maximum attainable score.
If the achieved score is between 60 % and 75 %, admission can be granted on the condition that 2 complementary examinations are successfully completed. - Korea (Republic of Korea):
Secondary school leaving certificate in combination with the university entrance examination (overall average score: 4.4) - Nepal:
Admission with a school leaving certificate after 12 years of schooling with a result above 85 % + 2 complementary examinations - Nigeria/Ghana:
Admission with the West African Senior School Certificate: Five independent, general education subjects must be completed with at least grade C6, including two languages and one mathematics/science subject.
+ 2 complementary examinations
Admission with a Higher National Diploma is possible without complementary examinations.
- Pakistan:
School leaving certificates after 10 and 12 years of schooling with at least 90% of the maximum attainable scores (900–1100 points)
+ 2 complementary examinations - Russia:
- Russian school leaving certificate after 10 years: no admission
- Russian school leaving certificate or Attestat of Secondary General Education after 11 years: admission with 2 complementary examinations - Sri Lanka:
Admission with GCE O-Levels and GCE A-Levels + Common General Paper Test (minimum 30 points): A minimum grade of “C” is required in all completed A-Level subjects. - Turkey:
Admission with graduation certificates (Lise Diplomasi) from Turkish secondary schools (Lise) and equivalent schools (Kolej) plus proof of passing the Turkish university entrance examination (minimum score under “Yerleşme Puanı”: 180,000). - United Kingdom:
GCE/A Level:- Four independent, general education subjects must be completed with at least grades A*, A, B, or C (or grades 9–4). The following subjects must in any case be included:
+ a language
+ mathematics
+ one of the subjects biology, physics, or chemistry
+ a humanities subject- At least three of the four subjects must be completed at GCE Advanced Level or International Advanced Level (IAL).
- The fourth subject must be passed at the GCSE, IGCSE or Advanced Supplementary (AS) Level.
- USA:
General university entrance qualification is not fulfilled with a U.S. High School Diploma. Therefore, additional qualifications are required for direct admission to higher education in Austria:
a. Advanced Placement Program: at least 4 AP exams or
b. SAT: a total of 1360 points must be achieved in the two sections “Math” and “Evidence-Based Reading and Writing.” - Ukraine:
Admission with the Certificate of Complete General Secondary Education
+ 2 complementary examinations
Admission to a Master's program
- For master’s programs, a related Bachelor’s degree equivalent to Austrian standards is required.
- Foreign universities are classified into different sections depending on the level of qualifications, which may result in varying admission requirements for each section.
- Whether your foreign degree meets the requirements will be assessed by our admissions team after you submit your online application. Preliminary information regarding possible admission or section assignments cannot be provided.

Country-specific information
- Afghanistan:
Bachelor’s degrees (4 years of study) are not considered equivalent in Austria. Therefore admission to a Master’s degree program is not granted. - Bangladesh:
- 4-year Bachelor’s degrees (Section 1): admission with a result of at least 90 %.
- Bachelor’s degrees (Section 2 or 3): not recognized as equivalent in Austria; admission is not granted. - India:
- 3-year Bachelor’s degrees (Sections 1 and 2): admission from 60 % of the maximum attainable score.
- 3-year Bachelor’s degrees from public universities (Section 3): admission from 75 % of the maximum attainable score.
- 3-year Bachelor’s degrees from private universities (Section 3): admission is not granted. - Nepal:
Admission with Bachelor’s degrees (minimum 4 years of study) with a result of at least 90 %.
No admission is granted for lower results or with 3-year Bachelor’s degrees. - Sri Lanka:
Admission with 4-year Bachelor’s degrees from accredited universities with a result of at least 85 %.
No admission is granted with lower results or for Bachelor’s degrees from non-accredited institutions or programs. - Pakistan:
- 4-year Bachelor’s degrees (Section 1): admission with a result of at least 85 %.
- 4-year Bachelor’s degrees with program accreditation (Sections 2 and 3): admission with a result of at least 90 %.
- 4-year Bachelor’s degrees without program accreditation (Sections 2 and 3) and 3-year Bachelor’s degrees: admission is not granted.
Language skills
English-language degree Programs:
- Confirmation of English language proficiency at Level B2
Exception: Applicants from the USA, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand
German-Language Degree Programs:
- German certificate at Level B2 (e.g. ÖSD, Goethe-Institut)
Exception: Applicants with German as their native language
Document legalization & translation
For a Bachelor’s application, the original secondary school leaving certificate must be legalized and for a Master’s application, the original Bachelor’s degree certificate must be legalized.
The legalization confirms the authenticity of documents. Different requirements apply depending on the country of origin. Here you can find an overview of the type of legalization required (apostille/full diplomatic legalization).
If certification is not yet available at the time of application, it can be submitted up to three months before the start of studies.

How much is the tuition fee for students from non-EU countries?
Please also note that applicants from third countries (neither EU, EEA nor Swiss nationals) must make a deposit on the tuition fee as part of their online application.
When is the application deadline?
For applicants from third countries, the possibility to apply ends with the 3rd admission date.
When is the next opportunity to join the degree program?
It is only possible to start all degree programs in the winter semester.
