Language Center

Welcome to the Language Center of the University if Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol. We are pleased to introduce you to our wide range of offers to promote multilingualism and intercultural communication.

 

As a higher education institution, we attach great importance to internationality and emphasize the importance of foreign language skills and intercultural competencies in education. A sound language education not only prepares our students for stays abroad but also strengthens their career opportunities in a globalized world economy in which multilingualism is highly relevant. Our team will be happy to support you in all language and certification matters.

LANGUAGES

All students have the opportunity to benefit from professional training in world languages as part of their degree programs and/or through our extracurricular foreign language course offering.

The proficiency levels offered at our university align with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

  • Chinese (A1/A2)
  • Spanish (A1/A2)
  • German (A1/A2, A2/B1, B1/B2)
  • Business French (B1/B2)
  • Business Italian (B1/B2)
  • Business Spanish (B1/B2)
  • Business English for Academic and Professional Purposes (B2+/C1 and C1/C2)

  • Language Modules in Full-Time Bachelor’s Degree Programs

    The full-time Bachelor’s degree program in International Business Management includes two language modules (2 x 12 ECTS) covering two different languages in total. All other full-time Bachelor’s degree programs include one language module (12 ECTS).

  • Language modules in part-time bachelor's degree programs

    In part-time Bachelor’s degree programs, the curricular language offering is limited to Business English for academic and professional purposes (B2+/C1+ level).
    The course Extracurricular Foreign Language Course Offering is currently held on Wednesday mornings.

  • Extracurricular foreign language course offering

    All students have the opportunity to take additional languages in parallel with their studies through an extracurricular course offering.
    Registration for extracurricular foreign language modules is managed by the International Business School.

  • Language modules for international Master’s students

    We particularly recommend that international Master’s students register for extracurricular German language modules starting in their first semester in order to develop important communication skills alongside their studies.

  • Language modules for international exchange students

    For our incoming students, we primarily offer courses in German and Austrian culture, but modules in other languages are also available.

Language Modules in Full-Time Bachelor’s Degree Programs

Selection & Allocation

At the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol, the selection of language modules for full-time bachelor's programs is carried out using a form in which students indicate their language preferences and existing knowledge. Based on this information, language modules are allocated.

  • In German-taught programs, English is prioritized for students with limited prior knowledge of the language.
  • In English-taught programs, German is prioritized for students with limited prior knowledge of the language.

A1 courses do not require any prior knowledge. For all other levels, students must demonstrate the required proficiency through the respective placement test. See links to recommended placement tests at the end of this page for more information.


Allocation Requirements

Beginner Modules:

Chinese or Spanish (Level A1/A2)

Requirements for selection as Foreign Language 1:

  • No prior knowledge of the target language.
  • Confirmed B2-level proficiency in English (for German-taught programs) or in German (for English-taught programs) according to the placement test.

Requirements for selection as Foreign Language 2 (only for International Business Management):

  • No prior knowledge of the target language, and no A1–A2 level language module taken as Foreign Language 1.
German (Level A1/A2)

Requirements for selection as Foreign Language 1:

  • No prior knowledge of the target language.
  • In English-taught programs, this module is prioritized for students without confirmed B2-level German proficiency.


Intermediate Modules:

Business Italian, Business French, or Business Spanish (Level B1/B2)

Requirements for selection as Foreign Language 1:

  • Confirmed A2-level proficiency in the target language.
  • Confirmed B2-level proficiency in English (for German-taught programs) or in German (for English-taught programs) according to the placement test.

Requirements for selection as Foreign Language 2 (only for International Business Management):

  • Confirmed A2-level proficiency in the target language.
German (Level A2/B1) or Business German (Level B1/B2)

Requirements for selection as Foreign Language 1:

  • Prior knowledge at A1 or A2 level in the target language.
  • In English-taught programs, this module is prioritized for students without confirmed B2-level German proficiency.


Advanced Modules:

Business English for Academic and Professional Purposes (Level B2+/C1)

Requirements for selection as Foreign Language 1:

  • Placement recommendation at B2 level according to the English placement test, or participation recommendation for the English Refresher Workshop.
Business English for Academic and Professional Purposes (Level C1/C2)

Requirements for selection as Foreign Language 1:

  • Placement recommendation at C1 level or higher according to the English placement test.

The University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol is one of the few authorized test centers for language certificates in Austria. The International Business School of the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol offers a range of internationally recognized certificate examinations in the field of language competence.

TOEFL ITP®

Details

The TOEFL-ITP® test is an internationally recognized English language test developed by Educational Testing Service (ETS) in Princeton, USA, to determine the aptitude of non-native speakers of English for a degree program at an English-speaking higher education institution.

Diplomas de español como lengua extranjera (DELE)

Details

The Diplomas de Español como Lengua Extranjera (DELE) are official certificates that certify Spanish language proficiency. They are awarded by the Instituto Cervantes on behalf of the Spanish Ministry of Education and Vocational Training.
