The finalists of Fit4Business@School 2023 together with the jurors and the project group Business Management.

For the third time, young people between the ages of 14 and 18 had the opportunity to develop creative business ideas in the Fit4Business@School competition.

Together with the Kufstein Innovation Platform, the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol organized the ideas competition, the final of which took place in June 2023 in the “Festsaal” (Festivities Hall) of the University of Applied Sciences. The conception and implementation of the event was in the hands of a practical project group from the Business Management degree program (now: Leadership & Business Management) under the direction of Dipl.-Kfm. Karin Steiner, university lecturer for Business Management, while the two students Sandra Auer and Christina Maier moderated the final. Business management students Diana Baldinger and alumna Jennifer Koller (as part of the jury) and Antonia Petermeier (jointly responsible for the project organization) were also involved. They were able to share their expertise from the degree program with students from the partner schools (HLW Kufstein and International School Kufstein). The Fit4Business@School project thus gave the future students an exciting insight into the University of Applied Sciences.

The partners of the project - namely Sparkasse Kufstein, Startup.Tirol and the Kufstein Chamber of Commerce - also contributed their expertise. As jurors, Peter Wachter and Julia Gabriel, BA had valuable tips for the potential young entrepreneurs. The students thus received first-hand, qualified feedback on their creative business concepts.

PRACTICAL APPROACH TO FINANCIAL EDUCATION

Fit4Business@School offers young people a practical approach to financial education. Without major barriers to entry or restrictive guidelines, they can develop creative ideas and learn what the ingredients are for a coherent business model. This often results in new perspectives on concrete problems from the reality of the younger generation's lives. A good illustration of this is the Co-Ride idea, which took first place and was awarded 300 euros in prize money. This is an app for connecting cab users in rural areas. Commuters to Kufstein are familiar with the problem of occasionally getting stranded at the train station in Wörgl. Co-Ride could provide a remedy.

The Festival Finder team from HLW Kufstein came in second place and was delighted to receive 200 euros in prize money. Their business idea includes an app that provides information on various festivals and helps to build a community for young people. Third place with prize money of 100 euros went to the ISK team Bee Safe. Their aim is to make nightlife safer by offering scrunchies with integrated test strips for knockout drops. All finalists received feedback and individualized certificates of participation.
