Numerous hands-on stations, exciting insights and a good atmosphere: the ORF Radio Tirol summer retreat made a stop at the FH Kufstein Tirol and transformed the campus into a lively meeting place for young and old.

The FH Kufstein Tirol welcomed the ORF Radio Tirol Sommerfrische team on Wednesday, August 13. Presenter Markus Feichter broadcasted live from the heart of the University of Applied Sciences, conducted interviews with guests, students and employees of the FH and the kubi: Kufstein Library for Science and Leisure - and showed a broad radio audience just how diverse and open the higher education institution is.

Live broadcast with a personal touch

"The atmosphere was - as usual at the Somerfrische - excellent. Many people were curious to find out what goes on in the halls and laboratories that you don't normally get to see," said ORF presenter Markus Feichter. It was particularly exciting for children to immerse themselves in the world of laboratories, technology and media.

In addition to visitors, FH staff and students also had their say in interviews. In a live interview with ORF presenter Markus Feichter, Maya and Marietta introduced the FH Kufstein Tirol, talked about their degree program, everyday life at the university and their experiences during a semester abroad.

In addition, both were on duty at various stations during the Sommerfrische. They reported on their impressions in a separate interview: Maya supervised the geography stand, where visitors could playfully test their knowledge on countries and continents, while Marietta led the house tours. Both were particularly pleased with the great interest shown by the guests - from children to senior citizens - and the many shared aha moments. “No matter which room we were in, there were questions and amazed faces everywhere,” says Marietta. Maya emphasized: “It's especially great for children when they can try out their knowledge and learn from each other.”

Interactive stations and summer fun

The program offered exciting discoveries for every age group on this hot summer day. In the Maker Labs I + II, Prof. (FH) Dipl.-Ing. Thomas Schmiedinger, PhD, and Bernhard Mandl, MSc, presented the impressive 3D printers and explained their possible applications. The virtual flight through the Alps with the Icaros provided a breath of fresh air, while the interactive geography game vividly conveyed knowledge about countries and continents.

Around the city park, a colorful family program invited visitors to join in - including making seed bombs, a fun can throwing event and soap bubble making. In the kubi: Kufstein Library for Science and Leisure itself, a varied children's program awaited the youngest visitors.

In the Media Lab, guests could stand in front of the camera in the TV studio, experiment with the green screen and even become invisible under the guidance of multimedia designer Victor Heim. A special photo moment was offered on the roof terrace of FH Kufstein Tirol, from where there was a unique view of Kufstein Fortress.

Two stands provided refreshments: the Kufsteinerland tourism association spoiled guests with freshly prepared herb sandwiches, while the FH Kufstein Tirol stand offered cool drinks, pretzels and ice cream. The ORF stand was also a popular point of contact - here visitors could find out about the Sommerfrische program and talk to the radio team.

Many guests praised the variety of stations. Claudia Lackner, who came from Thiersee with her children, raved: “The country quiz and the VR glasses were really great.” Johanna and Bünyamin Atci were also impressed: “We've already been to the 3D printer and the Media Lab - it's really nice everywhere.”

The Media Lab, where visitors stood in front of the green screen under the guidance of multimedia designer Victor Heim, made a particular impression. “I had the most fun with the green cape - I was invisible!” laughed one child.

FH to touch

FH Managing Director Prof. (FH) Dr. Thomas Madritsch emphasized the special openness of the format:
"The Sommerfrische has revitalized our campus. Our labs and hands-on stations show: FH Kufstein Tirol is a higher education institution you can touch."

Rector Prof. (FH) PD Dr. Mario Döller emphasized the added value of such events:
"We want to make research, teaching and practice tangible - for potential students as well as for the interested public. This is exactly what we have achieved today."

A day to remember

According to ORF, around 390 guests attended the Sommerfrische at the FH Kufstein Tirol. Many thanked us personally for the successful day and praised the friendly atmosphere. Feichter summed it up in a live interview: "Every corner here is exciting - from the large 3D printer to projects such as the digital Alpine space. You can tell that the future is being shaped here."

With this mixture of summery lightness, knowledge transfer and encounters, the ORF Sommerfrische not only made for a hot summer's day, but also left lasting impressions - for guests and for the FH itself.
