- Practical Project

The winning team, La Bestia, smiled at the award ceremony after an exciting day.
At the beginning of June 2025, students at the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol organized the first Kufstein penalty shootout tournament as part of a practical project. The Kufstein Arena became the scene of thrilling duels, cheering spectators, and fun side events such as the giant dartboard.
On Saturday, 7. June 2025, the Kufstein Arena was transformed into a special kind of soccer spectacle: students from the Kufstein University of Applied Sciences in Tyrol organized an exciting penalty shootout tournament for all sports enthusiasts. In addition to the tournament, there were fun side events for all participants and spectators. A special highlight was the giant dartboard, where participants could test their accuracy before getting down to business in the tournament.
THE GROUP STAGE IS FOLLOWED BY THE KNOCKOUT STAGE
Five teams, each consisting of four people, started the group stage. After three rounds of exciting matches, it was clear which teams would advance to the semifinals and ultimately to the finals.
Each team decided the order of its shooters themselves – however, each player was only allowed to take one shot per game. The goalkeeper who saved the opposing team's penalties was also chosen from within the team. The team that successfully converted more penalties was declared the winner of the game.
The points system was as follows: a win earned three points, a loss earned none. In the event of a draw - only possible in the group stage - each team received one point.

Team of hearts Real Madrid cheering on their goal scorer.
Team La Bestia was delighted with its well-deserved victory. Although another team with the illustrious name Real Madrid had already been eliminated after the group stage, they were considered the true winners of hearts: with their joy of playing and enthusiasm, they brought a breath of fresh air and infected everyone with their excitement.
A PRACTICAL PROJECT WITH POTENTIAL FOR THE FUTURE
Although many practical projects at the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol are already firmly integrated into the annual schedule, the penalty shootout tournament, held for the first time, was a welcome and refreshing change. Launched as a pilot project, the tournament was a hit with both students and Kufstein residents alike. The event was not only a complete success in terms of sport - it also promoted team spirit and created a pleasant, relaxed atmosphere away from everyday student life.
The penalty shootout tournament demonstrated the potential of new ideas and could continue to enrich campus life in a refreshing way in the coming years.
