Unique encounters, intensive discussions and ground-breaking ideas characterized the innovation workshop Shaping tomorrow's tourism, which took place as part of the Tyrolean Innovation Week 2024 on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at the Kufstein University.

From experts and companies to researchers and enthusiasts from the tourism industry - they all came together to play an active role in shaping the future of tourism. Professor (FH) PD Dr. Mario Döller, Rector of Kufstein University, opened the event with an overview of the current challenges in the field of artificial intelligence. Professor (FH) Dr. Alexandra Brunner-Sperdin and Professor (FH) DDr. Mario Situm, MBA, then presented inspiring insights into the current funding project at Kufstein University. Together with the state of Tyrol, the AMS and the Achensee Tourism Association, the Kufstein higher education institution is currently developing the lighthouse project Digitalization. Tourism - Digitization concept/strategy for the development of regional employer brands.

VALUABLE WORKSHOP RESULTS

The subsequent workshop identified the challenges in tourism through intensive discussions in small groups and in plenary sessions and developed innovative solution approaches. The focus was on topics such as the shortage of skilled workers, mobility and transport, digitalization, resource conservation and the future direction of (winter) tourism. Particular attention was paid to the issues of guest and local mobility, data management and the future of winter tourism. The discussion focused on how traffic congestion at hotspots can be reduced and how data can be used effectively to manage visitor flows and avoid overcrowding at attractions.

The debate about the future of winter tourism in Tyrol was particularly intense. The emphasis was on the need to diversify the offer in order to strengthen both the resilience of the region and its uniqueness compared to other destinations.

The relaxed and stimulating atmosphere encouraged all participants to make valuable contacts and expand their network. After all, the combination of ideas and expertise is the key to future-oriented development in the tourism sector.
