Students of the Master's program in ERP Systems and Business Process Management visiting the Digital Operation Hub of Telefonica in Madrid.

During the study trip to Madrid, the ERP students enjoyed exciting visits to companies, marvelled at works of art and enjoyed the diversity of Spanish cuisine – a trip that opened up new perspectives on business and culture.

Study trips are an integral part of the part-time degree programs, enabling students to expand their intercultural understanding and experience their theoretical knowledge in a real-life context. This year, the students of the Master's degree program in ERP Systems & Business Process Management traveled to the Spanish capital Madrid. In addition to cultural highlights, they also gained valuable insights into the processes of renowned companies.

THE SIESTA IS DEAD

Right at the beginning of their trip to Madrid, the ERP students had to say goodbye to a well-known cliché – the siesta no longer exists in many Spanish companies. The Austrian trade delegate mentioned this with regret and also reported on the wide range of activities available to support Austrian companies in Spain.

INSIGHT INTO GLOBAL PLAYERS AND START-UPS

Thanks to personal contacts of students, numerous renowned companies could be visited, which provided interesting insights into their internal processes and IT systems. For example, the students were given an exciting overview of the use of artificial intelligence in the insurance business at the Spanish headquarters of the insurance group Generali. At the ERP consultancy CBS Solutions, the students had the opportunity to deal with a real-life practical case. As part of an outsourcing project, they developed innovative proposals for outsourcing ERP systems and put their theoretical knowledge into practice.

One of the program's highlights was a visit to the Digital Operation Hub of the Spanish company Telefonica. On their campus, the Districto Telefonica, students were able to follow global cyberattacks in real time on huge screens.

A visit to the start-up company Language Gym showed that processes and IT systems are not only relevant for corporations, but also help small companies to save costs. The company presented a variety of simple solutions for keeping one's own administrative workload as low as possible.

Tapas, Tapas

A city tour and a guided tapas tour brought the students right into the heart of the lively old town of Madrid at the beginning of the trip. Of course, a visit to the royal museum Prado was a must, where the students learned many details about Spanish painters thanks to a private tour. With a dinner together and lots of tapas, the study trip unfortunately came to an end much too quickly.
