The city of Kufstein presented Zsófia Németh with the Thesis Award 2024 for her outstanding master's thesis on the importance of LGBTQIA+ pride parades in small towns. Her research on Perlen Pride in Kufstein shows how important acceptance and safe spaces are for future-oriented urban development.

Since 2018, the city of Kufstein has been presenting the Thesis Award to outstanding theses from the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol that are related to the city, analyze current challenges or identify new development potential. Zsófia Németh's master's thesis was awarded the prize for 2024. In her thesis, titled Motivations for Organizing LGBTQIA+ Pride Parades in Small Cities: A Case Study of Perlen Pride in Kufstein, Austria, the graduate examined the significance and impact of Pride parades in smaller cities, using the example of Perlen Pride in Kufstein. The work was written under the supervision of Prof. (FH) Dr. Verena Teissl.

AWARD FOR SOCIALLY RELEVANT RESEARCH

Eleven theses were submitted for the 2024 Thesis Award and intensively reviewed by the Kufstein City Education Committee. The thesis by Zsófia Németh, a graduate of the full-time Master's program in Sports, Culture & Event Management, was assessed as particularly relevant and outstanding because it addresses a socially current topic and contributes to strengthening acceptance and diversity in Kufstein. The scientific study shows how essential it is to question existing structures, especially in smaller towns, and to promote inclusive thinking. The research results provide valuable impetus for future-oriented urban development.

VALUABLE IMPULSES FOR URBAN DEVELOPMENT

The award ceremony took place on December 5, 2024. Zsófia Németh expressed her thanks for the award and emphasized the social significance of her work: “Even though I enjoyed the research, I didn't do it just for myself, but primarily for the people who will read it. I hope that I can give my readers food for thought and thus set an example for future-oriented urban development.”

We in the education committee looked at all the papers submitted, and Zsófia's was not only the best, it also deals with a topic that repeatedly causes great emotion.
