EMY
Development of museums to appeal to young people and enrich the cultural landscape.
Overview
-
Description:
Museums are central to cultural heritage, but they need to better communicate their contemporary relevance to engage younger generations. This is where the INTERREG project EMY (ITAT-46-013) comes in. Through innovative mediation formats, digital technologies and sustainable tourism strategies, museums in Italy and Austria are being transformed into interactive experience spaces for Generation Z.

Project goals
The project takes an innovative approach to making museums and cultural sites more attractive to young people. Key objectives include:
- Modernizing museums: Creating new visitor experiences through digital technologies, interactive formats, and creative concepts.
- Engaging Generation Z: Actively involving young people in the development and communication of cultural offerings.
- Cross-border exchange: Facilitating collaboration among museums, businesses, and educational institutions in Italy and Austria to develop new sustainable cultural tourism concepts.
- Promoting sustainable mobility: Integrating cultural offerings with soft tourism options such as cycling and hiking routes.
Expected Outcomes
The project partners will develop innovative concepts to transform museums into experiential spaces for young audiences and to promote sustainable cultural tourism. New digital mediation formats and immersive storytelling techniques will enhance visitor interaction. Museums will strengthen their links with local economies and creative industries. Cross-border cooperation will promote common strategies and digital communication platforms to ensure the sustainable use and contemporary relevance of cultural heritage in Italy and Austria. This will enable museums to dynamically communicate their content and reach new audiences.
A key activity of the project is the cross-border learning experience, where young people actively contribute to the development of museum content and cultural experiences. Through creative partnerships with businesses, artists and educational institutions, hands-on learning opportunities will be created to strengthen the long-term innovative capacity of the museum sector. At the same time, the project provides a platform for knowledge exchange between museum professionals, cultural tourism experts and the creative industries. This will facilitate the formation of new partnerships and promote innovative approaches to sustainable tourism and cultural mediation in the Alpine region.
