Master’s students in Sports, Culture & Event Management organize LGBTQIA+ events as part of their business project, promoting inclusion and community building in Kufstein.
In the summer semester of 2025, eight students from the full-time master's degree program in Sports, Culture & Event Management at the FH Kufstein Tirol university of applied sciences devoted themselves to the queer event format Q+You as part of their practical project. The aim of this diverse event series is to promote visibility, participation, and education around the LGBTQIA+ community, thereby making an active contribution to open, inclusive coexistence in Kufstein.
Under the guidance of coach Madeleine Johansson, the current project team further developed Q+You in terms of both content and visuals. In addition to a new logo and a fresh corporate design, several side events were on the program. A karaoke evening, a queer pub quiz, and a waacking dance workshop provided creative, open spaces for exchange and encounter throughout the semester.
Karaoke night
A highlights of the semester was the karaoke evening on June 7 at BAU! Kufstein, which attracted a diverse crowd and created an open, exuberant atmosphere. With powerful performances, spontaneous duets, and lots of applause, the evening was a resounding success and showed how low-threshold formats can promote queer visibility and create spaces for shared experiences.
Drag your brain out: queer pub quiz
Despite a smaller number of participants, the queer pub quiz on June 12 at BAU! Kufstein was also a successful evening, with a good atmosphere and exciting questions. In a relaxed atmosphere, participants were able to expand their knowledge of LGBTQIA+ history, pop culture, and queer terms. The format showed how entertaining and educational awareness-raising can be and was another step towards greater visibility and understanding of queer issues in Kufstein.
Pose and Power: Waacking Dance seminar
On July 5, the dance seminar Pose and Power took place at the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol, a barrier-free waacking workshop with renowned choreographer Timna Reisenberger. In a personal and open atmosphere, participants had the opportunity to get to know the expressive dance form of waacking and to explore their own strength and identity through powerful poses.
Conclusion and outlook for the 2025 winter semester
For the Q+You team, the summer semester was not only marked by successful events, but also by new experiences, challenges, and intensive teamwork. By working together on the concept, organization, and implementation, the students were able to gain valuable insights, develop their roles, and learn a lot about community work, inclusive communication, and creative event planning.
As the semester draws to a close, the team is drawing a thoroughly positive conclusion and at the same time looking forward to the next big event on the program: the second Color Run on October 11, 2025, which will once again send a strong signal for visibility and diversity as the official kick-off of Perlen Pride Kufstein Tirol. Free registration is already open and everyone is welcome to join in and actively help shape the next stage of the Q+You project.
