The students of the FH Kufstein Tirol on their excursion to Freudenberg Sealing Technologies in Kufstein.
At the end of April 2025, students from the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol gained exciting insights into the production of innovative high-tech components at Freudenberg Sealing Technologies in Kufstein. The focus was on state-of-the-art manufacturing technologies for efficiency and durability – and on consolidating their business English skills.
On 29 April 2025, students from the bachelor's degree programs in International Business Studies and Sports, Culture & Event Management at the FH Kufstein Tirol went on an excursion to Freudenberg Sealing Technologies in Kufstein. Together with their supervisor and English lecturer Catherine Gschwentner, MA, they got to know the traditional company with 175 years of experience better on site.
Freudenberg FST GmbH is headquartered in Weinheim, Germany, and is one of the world's leading suppliers of sealing and coating solutions. The company operates internationally in numerous industries and has production facilities and sales offices on all continents.
The students gained exciting insights into the company's history, its current product portfolio, and the manufacturing of modern sealing and coating technologies - all in English, of course.
THE SPECIAL THING ABOUT FREUDENBERG
The family business was founded in 1849 as Tannerei Heintze & Freudenberg. In 1929, the first sealing products were added to the portfolio, and the company gradually expanded to its current 40 market segments, ranging from automotive seals to filter and membrane systems.
A key feature of Freudenberg products is their durability, which also represents a significant cost advantage. The presentation explained that the use of low-wear materials and precise manufacturing can extend the maintenance intervals for Freudenberg components by up to 50 percent. This extension leads to significant savings in downtime and maintenance costs over the entire product life cycle.
QUALITY AT YOUR FINGERTIPS
The students were able to experience the precision of the products for themselves using examples: The team presented tiny sealing rings – used in toothbrush motors, for example – and explained how special materials and surface coatings significantly extend the service life of the entire system. Finally, the group of students was given a tour of the laboratories and production facilities in Kufstein. This gave them the opportunity to see the work of the specialists up close and experience the care and dedication that goes into even the smallest components.
