New perspectives on innovative mobility concepts

The students of the bachelor's program in Energy & Sustainability Management with supervisor Dr. Miriam Lettner at the construction site of the Brenner Base Tunnel in Steinach am Brenner.
Visits to the Tyrolean branch of the Austrian Association for the Disabled and to the construction site of the Brenner Base Tunnel showed the importance of interdisciplinary approaches to sustainable mobility.
As part of the course on innovative mobility concepts, students of the bachelor's program in Energy & Sustainability Management had the unique opportunity to deepen their knowledge in the summer semester. The curriculum included two excursions to explore the topic of innovative mobility management from different perspectives.
ACCESSIBILITY & DESIGN FOR ALL
The first excursion took the students to the Tyrolean branch of the Austrian National Association of and for People with Disabilities (ÖZIV), where they took part in a workshop on accessibility. This gave them a first-hand experience of what it means to have restricted mobility and highlighted the importance of accessible infrastructure for an inclusive society. The students had the opportunity to try out aids such as white canes and wheelchairs and gained valuable insights into the social dimension of mobility.
The second excursion destination took the students to the construction site of the Brenner Base Tunnel in Steinach. The Brenner Base Tunnel, as an important part of the Scandinavian-Mediterranean TEN corridor, plays a prominent role in the development of the transnational multimodal transport network. With a total length of 64 kilometers, the Brenner Base Tunnel will be the longest underground railway connection in the world. PRACTICAL INSIGHTS INTO INNOVATIVE MOBILITY CONCEPTS
The excursions gave the students practical insights into innovative mobility concepts and raised their awareness of the importance of accessibility and social aspects in public transport. The experiences and impressions gained will certainly make a valuable contribution to further discussions on sustainable mobility.
The course “Innovative Mobility Concepts” has once again shown how important it is to pursue interdisciplinary approaches in order to meet the requirements of sustainable and future-oriented mobility. The students have acquired valuable knowledge through the excursions and are now well equipped to promote innovative mobility solutions in practice.
