International guests exchange ideas during International Week in Finland.

Melanie Hladik and Daniel Seebacher, study management staff, visited the International Week of the Kouvola campus of the South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences XAMK in November 2024.

XAMK is a Finnish higher education institution with approximately 12,000 students at four campuses, which – just like the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol – has set itself the goal of strengthening international exchange. The campus in Kouvola offers a wide range of courses, including design, administration, technology and healthcare. In addition to the two representatives from Kufstein, numerous other international guests from the university sector were invited to the International Week as guests as part of the Staff Mobility Program.

STRENGTHENING INTERNATIONAL EXCHANGE

The week was dedicated to internationalization, and Melanie and Daniel were able to gain insights into life at a Finnish University of Applied Sciences and into intercultural cooperation between staff and students. They exchanged experiences in numerous workshops, panel discussions and lectures – also with the aim of strengthening cooperation. During the International Week, the participants found that their higher education institutions had many similar ways of working. The workshops provided an opportunity to exchange best practices in the organization of degree programs and internationalization strategies.

THE FINNISH SAUNA EXPERIENCE

Melanie and Daniel also immersed themselves in Finnish culture and were able to take part in an intense sauna experience. After sweat-inducing sessions in the sauna, with temperatures at a scorching 100 degrees Celsius, they were rewarded with a refreshing dip in the ice-cold water. This left the participants feeling invigorated and ready to explore the snow-white winter landscape of south-eastern Finland.

Melanie and Daniel took all these new impressions and insights back to Kufstein, where they enthusiastically shared them with their colleagues in the respective departments.
