Whether social media, storytelling, or leadership positions: the careers of marketing and communications management students at the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol – whether part-time or full-time – could hardly be more diverse. But what unites them all is a common goal that is surprisingly evident.

Even in a rapidly changing world of work, marketing remains a versatile and future-proof career field. Students of the Marketing & Communication Management (MKM) degree program at the Kufstein University of Applied Sciences particularly appreciate the combination of sound theory and practical applications. Many gain their first professional experience or qualify for specific industries while still in their degree program. Three students report on their individual paths, goals, and experiences.

Gaining practical experience during your degree program

Michelle Winter has been working in social media at Marktguru Germany, a ProSiebenSat.1 Media SE company in Munich, for a year and a half. She found the position through her own research. “I searched specifically for opportunities and was convinced after the interview: this is where I want to be,” she says.

At Marktguru, her responsibilities include supervising the planning and implementation of social media content. In addition to creative content creation, she gains insights into campaign management and the analysis of marketing measures. The theoretical models from her degree program are extremely helpful in this regard. “The insights into human behavior help me to develop strategically meaningful content that really resonates,” she explains.

Michelle Winter advises actively networking and seizing opportunities early on: “A good LinkedIn profile, your own contacts, and the courage to try new things can make all the difference.”

You can contribute your own ideas and combine the course content with personal projects.

Taking unconventional paths – The courage to take the first step

Sarah Kappacher decided early on to pursue independent projects. At the age of 16, she began producing content for companies. “I didn't want to wait for someone to tell me I was ready, I just wanted to get started,” she says.

She is particularly interested in creative niches that go beyond traditional marketing approaches. These include interior design, personal branding, and projects with a strong focus on storytelling. She is particularly fascinated by start-ups and smaller companies, as these often require personal commitment and individuality.

She finds the MKM degree program flexible. “You can contribute your own ideas and combine the course content with personal projects,” she reports. Sarah Kappacher would like to continue working in business after graduation. It is important to her to give brands personality and to realize projects that are authentic and emotionally touching.

With a clear goal of reaching a management position

Miriam Pühringer has a clear vision of her professional future. In five years, she sees herself in a senior marketing position in a medium-sized company. “I want to work in a variety of areas in marketing – from social media to event organization,” she explains.

The practical applicability of what she has learned is very important to her. The theoretical foundations from her degree program, such as process development and working with key figures, help her to implement marketing projects in a targeted manner.

Even before her degree program, Miriam was able to gain extensive practical experience at Träumeland, a manufacturer of baby and children's mattresses and sleeping bags, where her tasks included organizing trade fairs. During her current degree program, she is also gaining further experience at Online-Architekten, where she serves as a supervisor and works in internal marketing. Through these activities, Miriam is specifically preparing herself for future management tasks.

A good LinkedIn profile, your own contacts, and the courage to try new things can make all the difference.

A degree program with prospects

The bachelor's degree program in Marketing & Communication Management at the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol is practical and versatile. Many students particularly appreciate the focus on content creation, online marketing, corporate communications, and the exchange with external experts. Students acquire sound theoretical knowledge and learn how to use modern marketing tools. Despite new developments such as artificial intelligence, the industries remain future-proof and exciting.

The experiences of the students show that those who actively participate in class, practice good time management, and, above all, remain curious can successfully balance their degree program, part-time jobs, and personal projects.

Whether employed, self-employed, or in management, all students have one thing in common: they don't just want a job. They want to actively shape their careers, work creatively, and realize projects that showcase their personalities. This is precisely where the strength of the MKM degree program lies: it offers the freedom to find your own path.
