The ÖH Kufstein is more than just a representative body - it actively shapes campus life, advocates for students' concerns and creates valuable experiences. A dedicated team that works with students for students.
The ÖH Kufstein is a volunteer organization for students: It organizes events, supports degree programs and promotes campus life. In this interview, Angelina Sophie Baumann talks about projects, challenges and why more students should get involved.
The ÖH Kufstein is much more than just a statutory representative body - it is at the heart of campus life. In this interview, Angelina Sophie Baumann, Deputy Chairwoman of the ÖH Kufstein, tells us why her commitment is so important and what happens behind the scenes.
What is the ÖH and what does it do?
Angelina Sophie Baumann: The ÖH Kufstein is the legal representation of the interests of all students at our FH. We are committed to improving campus life, help with questions and concerns and offer many services, from free material rental for projects to advice on housing, insurance or mental health challenges. Students' own ideas and wishes are also welcome, and the ÖH actively creates space for them. We regularly organize activities such as hikes, a varied cultural program and discounts for students.
How is the ÖH financed?
Baumann: The ÖH is largely financed by the ÖH fee, which all students pay each semester. Part of it goes to the federal representation, which also supports us in Kufstein, and another part covers student insurance, which means that everyone is automatically insured against accidents and liability.
Another exciting aspect is that part of the contribution can be used directly by students, for example to organize class events.
Why should students be interested in the ÖH?
Baumann: Because we are really committed to the concerns of students. There are various departments, for example for education policy, social affairs or sustainability. You can contact them with your concerns or contact us directly in the team. The year representatives are also part of the ÖH and are an important interface; they give us feedback and bring issues to the Director of Studies. This allows us to actively make a difference. The ÖH committee, in which students also have a say, even helps to shape official FH guidelines, for example on Bachelor's and Master's theses.
What role does the MKM study program play in the ÖH?
Baumann: MKM is strongly represented here - in the Events Department, in the Marketing Department and through the year representatives. Our MKM students are actively involved in shaping campus life. We are particularly pleased that the marketing department will be completely taken over by MKM students from next semester. This shows that our projects and interests relate to all degree programs, including MKM of course.
Is there a current example of successful ÖH work?
Baumann: The recent ÖH election was a big highlight. We managed to increase voter turnout through various campaigns - with lots of advertising, a splash stand and great goodies. This showed that students want to use their vote and that we stick together as a community.
What is the ÖH currently struggling with?
Baumann: Our biggest problem is that many students don't even know what the ÖH does and what it offers. We are currently working on a new, clearer website that will be launched in the fall. It was developed by and for students as part of a practical project. We want to make it easier to access information. You can already find lots of information and current offers on our website: ÖH Kufstein
How is the collaboration with FH Kufstein going?
Baumann: The cooperation is good. We are in close contact with the Rector's Office and the administration and regularly discuss matters ranging from first semester support to timetable changes. Our common goal is to make the degree program as pleasant and exciting as possible for everyone.
What motivated you to become part of the ÖH?
Baumann: I'm studying Sports, Culture & Event Management in my fourth semester and have been with the ÖH for a year. I originally wanted to join the sports department, but the team at the time convinced me to assume more responsibility. I hardly knew anything about the ÖH at first, but my gut feeling and the support from the old team motivated me. I was particularly impressed by looking at the old minutes. It was fascinating to see that previous teams had similar ideas to ours and I wanted to finally implement them.
What has been your greatest success so far?
Baumann: The training weekend that we organized. We organized a proper onboarding course for our team with external ÖH trainers. As a result, we quickly got into work mode and were able to successfully implement many projects.
What advice would you give to students who want to get involved?
Baumann: Just have the courage to try it out! We'll find the right area for everyone, and even if you don't like something, there are always other ways to get involved. The ÖH is a colorful, open bunch of bachelor's and master's students that is constantly changing. Anyone who wants to make a difference is always welcome here.
