Tobias Merz is an employee and is simultaneously completing the Marketing & Communication Management degree program at the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol.
Tobias Merz is combining his marketing degree program at the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol with a job in university marketing. From creative projects like a YouTube series to social media content – this is how he masters the balancing act between theory and practice.
Tobias Merz is not only a student at the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol, but also part of the higher education institution's communications team. While studying Marketing & Communication Management, he also works 20 hours per week as a social media specialist in higher education marketing – a combination that offers him valuable practical experience and creative development opportunities.
EVERY DAY IS DIFFERENT
Tobias's working day is anything but monotonous. Alongside his fixed tasks in community management, such as replying to messages on TikTok, Instagram and LinkedIn, processing e-mails and reviewing the editorial plan, there are always new challenges. “I love the fact that no two days are the same. You never know exactly what exciting projects await you,” he says enthusiastically.
CREATIVE PROJECTS WITH HEART AND SOUL
One of his favorite projects is the YouTube series Storys behind Students, which introduces extraordinary students. One episode portrays a fellow student who won the Red Bull Basement Prize in Austria. “I love telling stories on film and inspiring people with them,” says Tobias.

He also enjoys working with the student influencer and TikTok team. Here, students develop and produce creative content for social media to make the FH Kufstein Tirol better known internationally. “It's exciting to see how good our ideas are received. And it's just fun to work with other creative minds.”
THINGS THAT MAKE HIS JOB GOOD
Tobias values the creative freedom that his work offers him the most. “I can contribute my ideas and also implement them myself – that motivates me tremendously!” He also particularly appreciates the team spirit within the communications department: “We are a great team in which everyone can contribute their strengths. We support each other and work together on great projects.”
FLEXIBILITY AS A MAJOR ADVANTAGE
The University of Applied Sciences offers Tobias the opportunity to optimally combine work and study. “The flexibility is a huge advantage. I can organize my time so that I don't fall short in my degree program and I get further valuable insights into the practical world,” he says. This is a model that shows how good the combination of theory and practice can be at the FH Kufstein Tirol.
