Markus Höfle, Director of the HLW FW Kufstein, and Prof. (FH) Dr. Mario Döller, Rector of the FH Kufstein Tirol.
Those who wish to study the Coding & Digital Design degree program at the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol can get individual courses from the new Communication and Media Design program at the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein credited.
From the 2025/26 academic year, the HLW FW Kufstein will be offering new training content in the field of communication and media design (KOMD). HLW graduates can receive credit for two of the subjects offered in this field of specialization for the bachelor's degree program Coding & Digital Design at the Kufstein Uni: This means that they do not have to complete the courses Design 1: Digital Design Skills (E) and Business 4: Business, Economics & Financing, which are scheduled in the first section of the degree program.
“Students who have successfully completed the CPR course have the option of having these two courses credited,” explains Prof. (FH) Lukas Demetz, PhD, Director of Studies for Coding & Digital Design. Students are free to request credit for the course or to complete the course as normal.
Coordinating the content between the institutions was an intensive process. “Aligning the learning outcomes and course content was time-consuming, but necessary to ensure a sound credit transfer,” said Prof. (FH) Dr. Mario Döller, rector of the university of applied sciences. In this context, he emphasized the ‘excellent cooperation’ with the director of the HLW FW Kufstein, Mag. Markus Höfle, and spoke of an ”open and cordial exchange across system boundaries.”
PARTNERSHIP IN THE INTEREST OF EDUCATION
The University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol welcomes the initiative of the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein to offer forward-looking educational content with the new field of study in communication and media design. An exchange between the institutions at the professional level is important in order to create synergies for current and future students.
Comparable models already exist with other schools: “HTL students in certain fields of study can in some cases join us directly in the third semester of the industrial engineering degree program,” says Döller.
NO PREFERENTIAL ADMISSION
The HLW degree does not provide direct admission to the bachelor's degree program Coding & Digital Design or other degree programs at the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol.
“Crediting two courses is an advantage, but it does not replace the regular application process,” Döller clarifies. As for all applicants, the regular admission requirements apply, and even graduates of the three-year technical college must take supplementary examinations in English, mathematics and German in the first year of study if they do not have a school-leaving certificate.
The University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol offers preparatory courses for this. Further information can be found on the higher education institution's website.
