Attracting, retaining, and developing excellent employees is a key challenge for companies in times of rapid change and acute skills shortages. ACP IT Solutions GmbH from Innsbruck took on this task together with students from the International Business School.

ACP IT Solutions GmbH is a leading IT company based in Austria with branches in Germany. ACP specializes in providing IT infrastructure, software solutions, and related services, and advises companies and public sector organizations in the B2B segment.

In times of rapid technological change and a growing shortage of skilled workers, companies are facing one of the biggest challenges of the future: attracting, retaining, and developing top employees. To address these issues in a practical way, the International Business School at the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol and ACP IT Solutions GmbH from Innsbruck have joined forces in an innovative partnership. As academic director of the General Management MBA Leadership program, Prof. (FH) Dr. Kristina Kampfer from the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol supervised the project. Andreas Heiß, Head of Technology and Services at ACP Innsbruck and a student on the program, and Theresa Huber, Head of Human Resources and Finance, were also key contacts.

“The aim of our practical project is to provide scientifically sound, practical support to businesses facing key challenges, backed by experienced experts,” said Prof. (FH) Dr. Kristina Kampfer from the Kufstein University of Applied Sciences.

We are delighted to have found an outstanding partner in ACP Innsbruck to work with on further developing the core onboarding process in practice.

START FROM SCRATCH

As part of a practical project, students on the General Management MBA with a focus on leadership were involved in developing new solutions for the onboarding process. Whether employees and companies are successful together depends largely on this sensitive process – which is precisely why the Tyrolean company is focusing on it in order to strengthen its employer branding in a targeted manner.

Working closely and trustingly with ACP IT Solutions GmbH in Innsbruck, they analyzed existing standards and procedures and developed specific optimization proposals for various phases of onboarding: preboarding, job interviews, onboarding from an organizational and personal perspective, structural issues, and the final phase of onboarding.

The project group was able to draw on internal information and documents from ACP Innsbruck. “In recent years in particular, we have created numerous structures and optimized processes in order to continuously offer our customers optimal solutions as an IT company. The question posed to the study group of the MBA program in General Management was whether and how we could still improve our onboarding process - and I am very pleased with the many creative suggestions we received!” said Andreas Heiß from ACP Innsbruck.

BRIDGING PERSONALITY AND CULTURE

Special consideration was given to corporate culture: in addition to more formal requirements such as qualifications, a key success factor for modern companies is that people and companies are also a good fit in terms of personality and culture.

The project group developed process optimizations and proposals for new processes, meeting formats, and events, as well as a range of tools to improve the complex onboarding process in practice. The conclusion drawn from extensive analyses, slides, and appendices:

  1. Stronger, more concise involvement of HR, for example in job interviews
  2. Integration of a buddy program to supplement HR measures
  3. Introduction and establishment of further celebratory measures – celebrating together, both big and small successes

The practical project clearly shows how crucial the employee integration process is for the success of a company.

This yields project results that are generally relevant for companies seeking to secure their competitiveness through committed and qualified specialists.
