Felicia Roth is preparing for her semester abroad in Japan.

Felicia Roth is drawn to faraway places: for her semester abroad, the marketing student has chosen a very special destination – Japan. In her report, she describes how she is fulfilling her long-held dream and preparing intensively for her adventure.

It all starts with a passion: Even as a teenager, Felicia Roth, a student in the Marketing & Communication Management degree program at the FH Kufstein Tirol, was fascinated by anime and Japanese culture. Her desire to live and study in Japan one day grew over time. She started learning Japanese early on – first through Duolingo, then at a language school. “I knew that if I really wanted to study there, it wouldn't be enough to just know a few words,” she says. “I wanted to be able to communicate.”

As soon as it is confirmed that she will be spending her semester abroad at Osaka Gakuin University in the fall of 2025, Felicia will begin her preparations. She will be supported by the International Relations Office (IRO) at the FH Kufstein Tirol.

“You are given very precise guidelines and must adhere to deadlines,” she explains. A Moodle course offered by the university helps her keep track of all the requirements. The regular information events organized by the IRO also provide guidance.

Her MOST IMPORTANT TO-DOS:

  • Fill out forms (application, learning agreement, visa)
  • Confirm Japanese language skills
  • Submit passport photoin accordance with Japanese requirements
  • Prepare medical and financial confirmation
  • Organize accommodation
  • Cultural preparation: information on etiquette, mentality, and everyday life

SUPPORT FROM THE INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS OFFICE

The International Relations Office (IRO) at the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol helps students like Felicia prepare for their semester abroad. It offers comprehensive support and makes the entire process easier.

“The study abroad program integrated into the degree program offers students the unique opportunity to immerse themselves in a foreign culture. In doing so, they develop valuable intercultural skills that will enrich both their personal and professional futures,” says Anja Kaufmann, MSc Student Exchange Coordinator at the International Relations Office.

DEGREE PROGRAM IN JAPAN WITH A FOCUS ON MARKETING

At Osaka Gakuin University, Felicia is taking specialized courses in marketing and communication as well as intensive language classes. The content is geared toward the unique characteristics of the Japanese market. “I find it fascinating to learn about the differences in marketing between Japan and Europe,” she says.

Expand your horizons and gain a new perspective on your field of study.
