Q+You, a practical project from the Sport, Culture and Event Management degree program, staged an exhibition at the beginning of June 2024. This aimed to promote appreciation for the representation of LGBTQ+ in art and photography - both historically and in contemporary terms.

The first part of the exhibition presented eight AI-generated portraits by the Q+You team, honoring influential artists who have addressed LGBTQ+ issues in their work and lives. Featured artists included Tamara de Lempicka, Tove Jansson, Frida Kahlo, Andy Warhol, Nan Goldin, Keith Haring, Jean-Michel Basquiat and Glenn Ligon. The biographies of these artists highlight their significant contributions to LGBTQ+ history through unique and impactful artistic expressions.

MONIKA ANDRIĆ'S CONTEMPORARY PHOTOGRAPHY

The second part of the exhibition showed the work of Monika Andrić, a Bosnian photographer and active participant in the Sarajevo Photography Festival. Andrić's exhibition Differences That Make Us focused on the diversity within the LGBTQ+ community and showed everyday situations that all people share, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. Three unique narratives from Andrić's collection were exhibited:

  • Religious practices: Photographs depicting LGBTQ+ individuals in various religious settings, highlighting their relationship to faith and spirituality.
  • Drag queen culture: Images of drag queens preparing for performances emphasize their artistic expression and the positive energy they bring to the community.
  • Music expression: photos of LGBTQ+ musicians and DJs passionately engaging with their audiences and highlighting the unifying power of music.

SPECIAL COMMITMENT

During a study trip to Sarajevo, Q+You members met with Aida Redzepagic, founder of the Sarajevo Photography Festival. Her inspiring narrative described the development of the festival and its role in addressing sensitive topics, including LGBTQ+ issues. This collaboration enriched the exhibition and provided deeper insights and connections to photographer Monika Andrić.

EFFECT OF THE EXHIBITION

The exhibition successfully highlighted the universal aspects of human experience that transcend sexual orientation and gender identity. It celebrated the rich diversity within the LGBTQ+ community and fostered a deeper understanding and appreciation among visitors. The portraits and some photographs created by the Artificial Intelligence are now on display at the Kufstein University right next to the entrance to kubi - Kufstein Library for Science and Leisure - inviting those who missed the exhibition to view these remarkable works.
