All project managers gathered at the topping-out ceremony to celebrate the construction progress of the student residence.

The topping-out ceremony marks the next milestone in the construction of the new TIGEWOSI International Student Residence for the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol. A new residence hall with capacity for 152 students is being built on the former barracks site in Kufstein, in close proximity to the university.

On December 11, 2025, the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol and TIGEWOSI, together with their project partners, celebrated the topping-out ceremony for their new student residence on the former barracks site in Kufstein. The topping-out ceremony symbolizes an important milestone in the construction process and brings the move into the residence significantly closer.

PROJECT UNDER CONSTRUCTION: NEW LIVING SPACES FOR STUDENTS

The new residence hall will comprise 115 single studios, 17 double studios, and three barrier-free studios – a significant increase in affordable and well-connected living space for students. This offering is complemented by 49 underground parking spaces and 152 bicycle parking spaces to facilitate both motorized and sustainable mobility. The building is owned by the non-profit housing association Wohnungsbau- und Siedlungs Ges.m.b.H. TIGEWOSI, which leases and manages the student residence on behalf of the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol. Ing. Hans Bodner Baugesellschaft m.b.H. & Co.KG. is responsible for the construction. The architectural planning is being carried out by the Kufstein-based firm Adamer-Ramsauer ZT GmbH, based on an urban design competition entry by the internationally renowned firm.

“Today we have reached an important milestone towards completion,” says Prof. (FH) Dr. Thomas Madritsch, Managing Director of the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol. “By summer 2026, a modern, needs-based student residence will be built here, which will both improve the living situation for students and advance the urban development goals of the city of Kufstein. As soon as the interior design is complete, nothing will stand in the way of moving into the rooms.”

RELEVANT FOR THE WINTER SEMESTER 2026/27

The new student residence is being built on the site of the former Enrich barracks and marks the start of the future urban quarter there. The building will have seven above-ground and two underground floors and offer around 4,300 square meters of living space. After the topping-out ceremony, construction will continue at a rapid pace: The International Student Residence is scheduled for completion in the summer of 2026, so that the rooms are expected to be ready for occupancy in the winter semester of 2026/27.

“We are delighted that this modern and functional student residence will enable us to make a significant contribution to the further development of Kufstein as a university location,” says Edgar Gmeiner, Managing Director of TIGEWOSI. “The close cooperation with Ing. Hans Bodner Baugesellschaft m.b.H. & Co.KG. and all other partners has made the construction process particularly efficient, enabling us to stay well on schedule.”

COMFORTABLE LIVING COMBINED WITH AN URBAN LIFESTYLE

The new International Student Residence offers many students, especially those who are not from the region, the opportunity to live close to campus in appropriate living conditions. The combination of single rooms, parking spaces, bicycle parking spaces, and close proximity to the university combines comfortable living with a sustainable and urban lifestyle. The project represents a decisive boost for the region: as the first building in the future urban quarter on the barracks site, the residence makes an important contribution to urban development and urban densification – without compromising on quality and sustainable planning.
