Students from the Marketing & Communication Management degree program gained insights into radio production and studio technology during the excursion to Life Radio Tirol.

Students got a behind-the-scenes look at radio broadcasting during an excursion to Life Radio Tirol. Between editorial work, hosting, and technology, they experienced firsthand how ideas are turned into a professional radio program.

What does it take for a radio program to inform, entertain, and go on air smoothly every day? Students from the Marketing & Communication Management degree program had the opportunity to find out during an excursion to Life Radio Tirol in Innsbruck. Organized as part of the Media Literacy course taught by Prof. Dr. Peter Schneckenleitner, the visit offered exciting insights into the world of radio broadcasting.

The students got to know the various areas of the station and learned how editorial work, hosting, and technology work together. The visit showed how planning, coordination, and technical expertise come together to create a professional radio program. The excursion served as a practice-oriented addition to the students’ studies and demonstrated just how dynamic, fast-paced, and precise media work in radio can be.

Insights into Everyday Radio Work

The employees of Life Radio Tirol explained the processes behind a live broadcast to the students. It became clear how closely hosting, editorial work, and technology interact, and how content for the radio program is prepared and implemented.

In addition, the students gained insights into the responsibilities of radio hosts - particularly in terms of designing shows, handling live situations, and coordinating music and spoken-word segments. “Seeing how many processes have to be coordinated in the background to ensure that a broadcast runs smoothly was especially exciting,” says Milon Menzel.

Technology and Production Processes

Another focus of the excursion was studio technology. The students received information about audio control, live production, and the technical processes involved during a broadcast. It became clear how important precise timing, strong coordination, and clear communication are in day-to-day live radio operations. “What I found particularly interesting was the direct collaboration between the technical team and the hosts during live broadcasting,” says Luna Lang.

Connecting Theory and Practice

The excursion allowed the students to connect theoretical content from their MKM studies with practical insights into media production. Topics from the fields of communication, media production, and marketing, in particular, became tangible in a real-world working environment. At the same time, the visit showed how strongly teamwork and coordination shape the daily production routine at a radio station.
