In the winter semester of 2025/26, Professor Charles Kauffman from York College of Pennsylvania (USA) enriched the teaching at the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol as a guest lecturer in the course World Languages and Inter-Cultural Communication for Business with international perspectives, cultural diversity and linguistic inspiration. The course was aimed at international exchange students and promoted their understanding of global communication and intercultural cooperation.
INTERCULTURALITY IN THE LECTURE HALL
The students found the first few minutes of the class particularly impressive: at the beginning of the course, Professor Kauffman welcomed all international attendees in their respective native languages – a sign of genuine cosmopolitanism. This gesture immediately created an open and respectful atmosphere in the class and reflected his many years of experience in dealing with different cultures.
This experienced linguist and university lecturer has an exceptionally international background. Over the course of his career, which has taken him to more than 65 countries, he has gained valuable experience working with people from a wide variety of cultures, languages, companies and government institutions. During a decade spent in four different countries, he developed a deep understanding of cultural diversity and intercultural cooperation.
EACH LESSON BEGAN WITH A WORD OF THE DAY – FROM JAPANESE TO HINDI. THIS MADE THE LESSONS VERY INTERESTING AND EXCITING AT THE SAME TIME.
Ali Incekara
Exchange student from the Netherlands
Drawing on his wealth of experience in languages, linguistics and international studies, he motivated students to understand cultural differences and use them as an opportunity for successful cooperation. He explained how culture, language and communication influence international business life and how misunderstandings can be avoided in an intercultural context.
