Students from the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol raised funds for YO!MOYO through a short film festival. They donated a foosball table and sports equipment for unaccompanied minor refugees in Kufstein.
The 2025 Short Film Festival at the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol not only screened international short films but also made a social statement: As part of their practical project, students in the master's degree program in Sports, Culture & Event Management collected donations for the YO!MOYO – A Safe Home initiative.
Proceeds from the Super Fan Ticket, a raffle, and other fundraising efforts made it possible to purchase a foosball table and sports equipment for unaccompanied minor refugees.
YO!MOYO, a Red Cross-supported facility in Kufstein, provides support to young people who have come to Austria without family members. This support has become even more crucial following the sudden closure of another shelter in Mils.
SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY AS PART OF THE PROJECT
For the students, the charity project was an integral part of the festival concept from the very beginning. Under the motto MOSAIC – Many Stories, One Frame, the festival was intended not only to promote cultural exchange but also to provide concrete support.
The donated foosball table is already in use at YO!MOYO in Kufstein and is being used extensively by the young people there.
Dr. habil. Agnes Bidmon, a professor at the University of Applied Sciences and coach for the short film festival project, emphasizes: “As the coach for the short film festival project, I am particularly pleased to see how committed the students are to combining cultural event organization with social responsibility—and how they have integrated these aspects from the very beginning. The project impressively demonstrates how hands-on learning at the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol can have a tangible impact.”
And the project team adds: “The charity theme was a central part of the festival and closely linked to our motto. The goal was to highlight different perspectives while providing concrete support to people facing challenging situations.”
PRACTICAL PROJECT WITH SOCIAL IMPACT
The official handover took place in the presence of representatives from the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol and YO!MOYO. It is particularly encouraging to note that the foosball table is already being used extensively and, according to feedback from those on site, is fostering a sense of community and solidarity among the young people.
The Kufstein Short Film Festival thus demonstrates how university projects have an impact beyond the campus—culturally, organizationally, and socially.
