Student presenters Olivier-Laurent Marchal and Temmuz Buse Özdemir welcome the audience to the Kufstein 2025 Short Film Festival.
The Kufstein Short Film Festival thrilled audiences with its eighth edition under the motto MOSAIC – Many Stories, One Frame. The organizers screened short films that promote cultural dialogue and inclusion. All proceeds went to the local charity organization Kufstein hilft!
Every mosaic consists of many individual pieces – just like our society. Under the motto MOSAIC – Many Stories, One Frame, students at the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol organized the 8th edition of the short film festival. The event highlighted stories that are often overlooked and celebrated diversity, unity, and openness to new perspectives.
International filmmakers were given a platform to present their meaningful stories to a wide audience, thereby promoting cultural dialogue. Each film formed a unique fragment in a larger mosaic of human experiences. The program team selected a total of seven short films from over 100 submissions. In doing so, it placed particular emphasis on a diverse and carefully curated selection in order to enable a rich film experience and to honor artistic expression in all its facets.
THE EVENT ORGANIZATION
The planning phase of the festival provided the students with valuable insights into the factors that make an event of this magnitude successful. They realized early on that a clear and balanced distribution of tasks forms the backbone of an efficient workflow and smooth processes. Equally crucial were regular coordination within the individual teams and cross-departmental communication, which ensured a common focus, quick problem solving, and a consistent vision throughout the planning process.
This structure formed the basis for the careful compilation of the film program. The focus was particularly on works that combine artistic quality with meaningful messages in line with the festival motto. The film selection stimulated visitors to engage in intense discussions and debate the content, making it clear that exchange and reflection are important elements for the audience - also for future editions. Overall, the planning phase showed how a dedicated, passionate team can turn ambitious goals into tangible results - culminating in a sold-out event.
The students enlisted the support of local businesses to make the festival happen: the main sponsors were Raiffeisen Bezirksbank Kufstein, ÖH, Kufsteinerland, and Auerbräu. They also managed to attract numerous other partners for a raffle, including: Spar, Veríval, Unité Print, Sportgummi, Vitus and Urban, Arte Hotels, and Kufstein Fortress. Thanks to this support, the festival remained accessible to all and was able to continue presenting independent film projects without commercial restrictions.
AWARDS, CINEMA SECTIONS AND AUDIENCE PARTICIPATION
The evening program was divided into two film blocks with an intermission to give guests the opportunity to refresh themselves and reflect on the content. A jury of experts and the audience had the opportunity to choose their favorites from the program:
- The Jury Award - nominated by Barbara Huber, Michael Bischofer, and Maximilian Eigentler - went to Dinis M. Costa for the film The Blue Frontier.
- The Community Award went to Néstor López and Carlos Valle Casas for Seeds from Kivu.
The guests enjoyed snacks, drinks, raffle prizes, and an afterparty with two DJs - an ideal opportunity to exchange impressions and chat with filmmakers and other visitors.
CHARITY FOCUS – THE PROCEEDS WILL BENEFIT KUFSTEIN HILFT!
As a non-profit event, the festival supported the local organization Kufstein hilft!, which helps refugees in and around Kufstein. Working closely with the organization, the Kufstein Short Film Festival team looked for ways to make a concrete contribution - ultimately deciding to use the festival's proceeds to equip a refugee home with sports equipment, including a table tennis set and other materials. Thanks to the tremendous support from the audience and partners, the team was able to raise enough funds to successfully implement this project.
