The Cadi Ayyad University in Marrakesh and FH Kufstein Tirol have agreed to a close cooperation and sealed the deal with a memorandum of understanding and an active student exchange program.

The expansion of the African partner network of FH Kufstein Tirol has now been brought to a very successful conclusion with the addition of the renowned Cadi Ayyad University in Marrakesh, Morocco. The signing of the memorandum of understanding and the student exchange agreement took place in the middle of June at the embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco in Vienna. The cooperation was sealed during a ceremony in the presence of Moroccan Ambassador Dr. Azzeddine Farhan and President of the University Prof. Moulay Lhassan Hbid.

“The signing of contracts with Cadi Ayyad University provides an excellent addition to our existing university network. We regard this cooperation as a meaningful first step for expanding our network in Africa,” as Managing Director of FH Kufstein Tirol Prof. (UAS) Dr. Thomas Madritsch said.

FH Kufstein Tirol already has a network of seven international partner universities on the African continent in the five countries of Morocco, Ghana, Namibia, Tunisia and South Africa. The newly concluded partnership now adds a third, highly significant Moroccan higher education institution to these.

“In addition to the student exchange, joint projects, program developments and further cooperation measures are planned in various subject areas within the context of the contract conclusions. There is a lot of space for further development, which is in the best interest of both universities,” confirmed Mag. Noureddine Rafili, head of the department for international relations at FH Kufstein Tirol.

Arabian flair with tremendous economic power

The Cadi Ayyad University based in Marrakesh is one of the most important universities in Morocco and also has a special reputation in the areas of technology, engineering and business management. The university was founded in 1978 and currently has a student body of about 100,000 students who are taught by 1,500 faculty members and supported by 800 administrators. The Moroccan Cadi Ayyad University is even bigger than the University of Vienna. The university is spread out over 3 locations in Morocco: Marrakesh as well as campuses in the Atlantic coastal cities of Safi and Essaouira.

In addition to the study content and the importance of the city itself, studying against the backdrop of Marrakesh also has many cultural advantages. The medieval city of the Berber period was once the capital of the Kingdom and remains one of the most important economic centers of Morocco to this day.
