Resilient Tourism

Development of cross-border strategies and action plans to improve resilience for a sustainable and digital future of tourism.

Initial situation & project description

Tourism has become a dynamic economic sector in recent decades, driving both the development of the Alpine regions of Salzburg, Tyrol and Bavaria and the growth of small and medium-sized tourism businesses. For a long time, tourism was considered crisis-proof, but the COVID-19 pandemic revealed the vulnerability of the industry. Even before the pandemic, employment in the hospitality industry was considered unattractive, and the pandemic accelerated the shift of workers to other sectors. Now, the industry faces not only a shortage of skilled labor, but also the growing need for climate neutrality, which presents an increasing challenge.

Resilient companies with diversified offerings are better able to weather crises. Developing resilient structures within the tourism industry is therefore crucial, especially in a sector that is highly affected by seasonal fluctuations and the effects of climate change.
